FAQ
Do I need the original email application installed to read its address book?
You can read address books from the following applications even if the original email application is not installed: AOL, CSV, Eudora, Pine, LDIF, Mozilla, Opera and Pegasus. For other address book formats, such as Outlook and Notes, you must have the original application installed. If you need to go from one machine to another that have incompatible address book formats, use Address Magic Backup (AMI) as the intermediate format.
Does Address Magic Enterprise Edition also convert messages or just address books?
The Enterprise Edition is (optionally) capable of doing message migration from Lotus Notes, Netscape 4, Netscape 6/7, Mozilla, Thunderbird, Eudora, AOL or IMAP to Outlook, Outlook Express or IMAP. Message conversion to or from GroupWise is not supported.
How many licenses do I need?
The Enterprise Edition is licensed on a per-mailbox basis. This usually equates to one license for each workstation where you will run the Enterprise Edition unless you are running a Terminal Server or are doing a centralized migration. (The size of the address book itself does not matter.)
How do I use the Enterprise Edition to distribute address books?
Address Magic Backup (AMI) files can be used to move address books between machines, but Connected Software recommends our product Epicenter, which is specifically designed to distribute address books by email or by the web.
Does the Enterprise Edition support large address books?
The Enterprise Edition has been used successfully with address books up to 200,000 entries, although Connected Software recommends against creating client address books over 2,000 entries. Microsoft Outlook is the only email application we are aware of that can handle large address books and still maintain acceptable performance.
Does the Enterprise Edition support distribution lists?
Yes, Address Magic Enterprise Edition supports distribution lists including nested distribution lists.
Does the Enterprise Edition support Automation?
The Enterprise Edition can be run non-interactively from the command line for supporting scripting and batch applications, or from any popular script language such as VBScript, JavaScript, and others.
Does the Enterprise Edition convert Exchange Server addresses to SMTP addresses?
Yes, although if you try and convert to an Outlook contacts folder, Outlook will automatically convert them back. Use a Personal Address Book (PAB) as a destination instead.
Does the Enterprise Edition support more than one email address per contact?
Yes, in Lotus Notes, Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Mozilla, Thunderbird, Eudora and AOL.
